Soft Launching My PR Era

public relations Internships

When I think about how I got here — to The Hoffman Agency and the start of my professional PR career — it comes down to consistency, connection and hard work.

I was putting in the hours, networking like I’ve never networked before.

As a self-proclaimed nonchalant introverted extrovert, I found it incredibly daunting to be constantly putting myself out there — especially when I was going through a major identity crisis post-grad.

But after talking to someone new every day for two and a half months, whether it was delusion or genuine confidence, I suddenly had the charisma and humor to host “Late Night.” In other words, I’ve built a sense of assurance and learned how to navigate professional conversations with strangers.

That effort paid off when I connected with Ashley, a current associate account executive at Hoffman. Through her, I learned more about the Agency and what a career in PR could look like. Beyond that, I just got to catch up with a “cribling”— not a sibling, but someone you’ve known since you were both in the crib.

What drew me most to The Hoffman Agency was how relevant the work felt to who I am and what I studied.

With a degree in communications, I’ve always loved taking abstract ideas and turning them into something tangible and compelling. My academic and personal experiences have taught me how to produce narratives through film and photography. That’s what excites me about PR: the ability to shape stories that not only resonate with audiences but also move the needle for clients.

I’m especially looking forward to learning what it means to do PR in the tech space and learn the PR “language” — from understanding coverage and bylines to navigating client communications with demure professionalism, always being one step ahead.

As a consumer, I can recognize what PR looks like from the outside, so I’m excited to apply that perspective to the business and operations side.

Speaking of perspective, the quote — or maybe mantra — “There is so much power in 24 hours” has altered my brain chemistry.

It’s shifted the way I approach time because it’s not about doing everything; instead it’s about making time for the things that matter. I’ve found that I can make the most of my day when I can combine movement with connection. One of my go-to after-work activities involves “habit stacking” — like going on a walk with a friend. It’s the perfect mix of showing up for myself and maintaining community, which feels incredibly important now that everyone’s on their own post-grad path.

Joining The Hoffman Agency feels like the start of something exciting — not just a first job, but a space where I can grow, learn and bring what makes me unique into the world of PR. I haven’t lost sight of my big career goal — I want to make movies and television for a living — and this opportunity feels like a steppingstone in the right direction. As cheesy as it sounds, I feel like I’m in the right place at the right time.
