Hungry to Learn – Interning for The Hoffman Agency

Cierra Nguyen desk setup

By Cierra Nguyen, Account Coordinator

As my time as an intern at The Hoffman Agency comes to an end, I would like to reflect on my journey over the past four months. I believe that Hoffman prepared me to become a true PR professional. I respect Hoffman for giving interns the chance to be integrated into accounts and letting us be hands-on since Day 1 of our internships. What I admire most about The Hoffman Agency is the people. As cliché as it sounds, I couldn’t help but realize how much each person at Hoffman was willing to not only help me in any assignment that I was given, but also take the time to get to know me as a person.

What I learned about the PR industry is it’s never boring. In this industry, you learn how to juggle the tasks of many different clients and deadlines. It is a fast-paced environment – you can be doing an assignment for one client and then jump to another client assignment the next minute. There is always something new and different to learn, and it’s an industry where you need to think on your feet.

From my time here, I don’t think I can narrow down my favorite tasks. From drafting social media content, to crafting award submissions, developing media lists and researching influencers, I found value and joy in each task. It’s rewarding to see the progress and improvement of my work compared to when I began my internship at Hoffman.

The best advice I was given was to not be afraid to make mistakes and to ask lots of questions. Entering the professional world can be truly scary. In the beginning, I was afraid of making too many mistakes. However, I found that at Hoffman, they admire you when you take initiative and show that you are not afraid of making mistakes because that shows how hungry you are to learn.

The best recommendation that I can give someone entering the world of tech PR is to be proactive and take the initiative. Everything will be new, and it isn’t expected of you to know how to do everything. However, if you show that you are eager to learn, you are already one step ahead of where you were before. I am looking forward to continuing my PR career at Hoffman as an Account Coordinator and taking every new challenge coming my way as a learning opportunity.
