How My Parents Accidentally Prepared Me for Life at Hoffman

Maya Mhatre Intern Blog

Growing up, my parents had one rule that saved me more times than I could count.

If I did something I wasn’t supposed to, all I had to do was spin it into a good story with a positive message, and I was off the hook. Safe to say, I got pretty good at storytelling real fast.

So, when I came across The Hoffman Agency and saw the quote, “the story is always there,” at the heart of everything the agency stands for, it felt like a calling. It turns out, I’ve basically been training for PR my whole life (thanks, Mom and Dad!).

But it wasn’t just the ethos that drew me in. It was the people.

During my interview process, I kept noticing something you don’t always see as often: Everyone I spoke with genuinely loved where they worked. People were casually repping Hoffman merch and talking about the company like it’s their favorite thing. To me, that says everything I need to know about a company.

When the people inside a company are its biggest ambassadors, you know the culture is real. That’s the kind of place I wanted to be.

Being fresh out of college, I expected post-grad life to hit fast after the best years of my life. I was scared it would feel boring, uneventful and like the excitement had just stopped. However, I was pleasantly surprised that it was the opposite.

Everything feels brand new and electric. The city I’ve lived in for four years somehow looks different. It feels fuller, more alive.

The same Orange Line train I used to take to class is now the train I take to work and even that feels like a whole new train.

Post-grad hasn’t slowed things down at all. It has given me a whole new lens and desire to move with purpose, to make every moment count.

As for PR life? It’s everything I hoped it would be. Fast-paced, dynamic, always moving and the kind of work where you want to learn more. Every minute matters here at Hoffman, and honestly? That’s exactly what I wanted.

I’m so thrilled to be part of the Hoffman team and can’t wait to learn, grow and meet everyone. Here’s to a great summer!

And if this blog post is any indication, I’d say the story is still there — and I’m still very much off the hook!
