I came into The Hoffman Agency ready to learn about tech PR. I wasn’t totally sure what I was getting myself into other than knowing people talked about AI and semiconductors. After my time here, I can confidently say that I learned about more than just those two things, although I also know a lot more about AI and semiconductors now.

The knowledge of our clients came slowly, but the support I received did not. Everyone welcomed me with open arms, and no task felt too big when I had people there to help me. I could not imagine going through this internship without the amazing people around me, from our directors and vice presidents to the wonderful AAEs; everyone has helped me in more ways than one. Even if I made tasks take longer, they still gave them to me. If my idea was way off track during a brainstorm, they would still listen. The welcoming environment at Hoffman was a breath of fresh air.
Nothing felt better than when I started to find my rhythm. I found projects I could help with, and I started to take on more responsibility. Walking into the office or opening my computer didn’t feel so scary anymore. But without the initial fear and feeling of discomfort, I would never know how far I have come.
My internship still had its hard moments, and I think that’s where I grew the most. From receiving rewrites where every word I had written was gone to accidentally RSVPing “Yes” to a meeting between a journalist and a CEO, everything was a learning experience. Not knowing something is OK, but instead of waiting for the moment to pass, ask the question, because then you’ll remember or have a way to go back and check. You might just have to take the plunge and message the team member with an intimidating LinkedIn headshot.
The only advice I feel qualified to give is the same advice I continue to receive, and it is to speak up. Team meetings are there to discuss what needs clarification or what is giving people a hard time. Days in the office are meant to be moments when you can talk to someone face-to-face and ask them about the PR industry or what type of music they like. Speaking up in any capacity shows people that you care and are engaged, so don’t be afraid to do it if you haven’t. As I continue my journey at Hoffman, I’ll be sure to do the same.
Oh, and what am I looking forward to the most? It is getting to see new interns go through the process and help them the way others helped me.
